Overall Purpose:


The Assistant Administrator will assist with the daily operations required in the Mary Lyon Centre Centralised Administration Office, ensuring that all administrative requests are dealt with promptly and effectively.

The role will be part of a busy team consisting of five other colleagues.

All will provide support to members of the Unit, including CFM, the Advance Training Centre and external customers' visiting the sites.

There are a variety of duties which make up this interesting position.

The Administration Team needs to be flexible, efficient and timely in supporting and delivering business requirements to the staff and visitors within MRC Harwell.


Main Duties/Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist with the logistics of organising training courses, meetings and events
  • Provide a meet and greet service for Advance visitors
  • Ensure guests have the relevant IT support and room management available to them
  • Manage incoming switchboard calls
  • Maintain, review and coordinate databases and registers for example risk assessments and training records
  • Complete regular stocktaking checks within Advance
  • To raise PO's and process orders, invoices and journals within budgetary guidelines
  • Update the Intranet (HARWEB) with any amendments required

Working Relationships:


The role requires communication with staff, suppliers and visitors at all levels, working in close liaison with the Head of Administration, the site Director and senior management.

Education/Qualifications/Training Required:


  • Essential:_
  • GCSE's at Grade C and above or relevant qualifications
  • Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft packages

Previous Work Experience Required:


  • Essential: _
  • Administrative experience
  • Experience of working in a fastpaced environment and able to be multifunctional
  • Experience arranging events, training courses or meetings
  • Desirable: _
  • Experience working within a science environment
  • Experience working with Oracle, SHE Assure, Evotix, Send Word Now

Knowledge and Experience:
