Position Summary


We are seeking to hire a Senior Life Science new business underwriter to join our growing London Team based in London.


The role will focus on underwriting our portfolio of specialist Life Science Products/Package offering on both the Commercial and Lloyds platform both on a primary and excess basis.

Servicing New Business from or key broker partners.

Utilises underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations.

Acts as a referral point for more junior members of the team


Key Responsibilities
Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.

  • Prepares quotations and answers questions from Brokers, internal and external contacts and escalates issues as necessary.
  • Builds Pipeline and visibility with key broker partners
  • Recommends appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis and consideration of applicant documentation, business factors and competitive situations.
  • Analyses quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten and prepares reports for
- management review.

  • May assist in marketing products and services through the brokerage community and makes field visits.
  • Develops and maintains positive Broker relationships.
  • Keeps current on state/territory issues, regulations and trends.
  • Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
  • Develop proficiency in all relevant CNA systems.

  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound business decisions effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other businessrelated software.
