Role Purpose


The Health and Safety Lead is responsible for health and safety matters on sites within the High-tech Manufacturing / Major Projects and on occasion specific Client Frameworks and individual projects within the ISG Group of businesses (with mutual agreement), ensuring that the company is fully discharging its legal duties as stipulated by relevant Statutory Instruments, Codes of Practice, EU Directives and Company Guidance.


As part of the High-tech Manufacturing Health and Safety Department you will be accountable and report to the Health and Safety Director and be responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety covering your allocated projects in the UK, projects that are part of Client Framework Agreements and other projects (with mutual agreement) within the ISG Group of Businesses, including works within other EU Countries.

Key Accountabilities


Implementing, Coordinating and standardising ISG's health and safety procedures and representing ISG on all matters of H&S with the Client and external enforcing bodies.

Identify and assist with research and development of new legislation and codes of practices.
Assisting in the review and monitoring of the company management systems.
Prepare and compile data for the annual company management review of Health & Safety.
Assisting in the writing and implementing of new procedures.
Assessment of the supply chain by auditing and monitoring against set Key Performance Indicators.
Assisting and writing documentation for tender submissions.
Prepare, attend and deliver client presentations.

Identify the role and responsibility of High-Tech Manufacturing in respect of the CDM/Local regulations for each project and agree a course of action with the Project Team and Site Manager to satisfy these requirements.

Assisting CDMC's/Planning Supervisors where required.

Assist site management in preparation the contract health and safety plans, prior to the contract commencing, and with the site team review and plan all activities, identifying high risk activities.

Identify areas and operations which require specific safety instruction and organise and undertake training in this instruction on site using permits, BPG, HSG as required.

Provide information in the form of instructions, best practice guidance notes, codes of practice safety information sheets etc., and inform the site management of group accidents, incidents, visits from the Health and Safety Executive/Inspectorate SZW.

Ensure project induction instructions are reviewed every 4 weeks, are relevant to the work in hand and are effectively carried out on site.

Review high-risk contractors' method statements, provide any assistance required in assessing method statements, and monitor the implementation of the same on site.

Ensure by instructions, advice, information and training that contracts are being carried out to company standards.

Communicate effectively with the Health and Safety Executive/ Inspectorate SZW regarding the policy and inspections, accidents and incidents, ensuring that accidents and dangerous occurrences are reported promptly notifying the Directors before engaging in commentary.

Investigate accidents/incidents as required by ISG internal procedures/RIDDOR. Make known and discuss all findings/recommendations throughout the High-Tech Manufacturing & Engineering Services business, issuing safety alerts.

Liaise with Project Managers and Business Support Managers on contract standards and any future changes or additions to the policy and any specific areas of the policy where particular emphasis is required.

Monitor the effectiveness of the Health and Safety Management assisting our staff by site inspections and audit and report on prevention improvements necessary.

Ensure continuous improvement by continual research and development.

Ensure all of the site team is involved in the health safety management of the contract by discussion, briefings, training sessions and effective communication.

Monitor the effective running of the supervisor's safety meetings, and monitor that items requiring attention are actioned.

Ensure that all risk assessments required by current statute are carried out, information is displayed on the site safety board, and that effective arrangements for briefing employees on the above are implemented.

Ensure that the Project offices meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act 1963 and ISG's internal company standards and procedures.

Ensure that office-based personnel receive appropriate health and safety training and instructions.
