Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver investment recommendations on relative positioning across the main asset classes (equities, government bonds, corporate bonds, emerging markets bonds, commodities, etc.) and currencies (both developed and emerging), within the specific objectivesand constraints of defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) funds
  • Develop a robust and repeatable investment process to support recommendations, including a consistent approach to analysis of the cyclical environment using macro and market inputs and a coherent framework for decisionmaking
  • Build and maintain analytical tools including scorecards, indicators, and data screens
  • Conduct scenario analysis, develop themes and narrative, and conduct analysis of market behaviour under different macro and market conditions
  • Engage with internal teams and external research providers and incorporate input
  • Undertake adhoc research projects on strategic and cyclical aspects of asset classes, currencies and asset allocation investment strategies
  • Deliver and present wellprepared input to internal stakeholders, including the Head of ISA and the USSIM Asset Allocation Committee, outlining research findings and investment recommendations
  • Maintain and improve the data and analytics used within Portfolio Strategy and the wider ISA team
  • Team responsibilities including minutes, documentation, monthly updates and model validations

Technical Competencies, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent understanding of macroeconomics and investment theory/fundamentals, data sources and analysis across a range of asset classes
  • Substantial experience in a multiasset context, preferably practical investment experience of institutional investment decisionmaking
  • Excellent understanding of macroeconomics and investment theory/fundamentals, data sources and analysis across a range of asset classes
  • Pragmatism ability to focus on key factors/variables/narratives as appropriate
  • A great attitude proactive and enthusiastic, keen to provide views and challenge
  • Excellent analytical skills and intellectual curiosity willingness and ability to investigate challenging concepts and develop new ideas
  • Attention to detail with the ability to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written papers and oral presentations
  • Proficient at prioritisation, project organisation, and management of multiple workstreams
  • Good IT skills (especially Excel, coding in VBA/Python desirable)
