Working as part of a team, the Multi skilled operative will undertake operational delivery duties required for the Rail Delivery Fleet (RDF) vehicles & associated equipment.

Whilst at the same time accepting the nature of the unsociable hours working of the contract. Working out in all types of climatic conditions.

The Multi skilled Operative will be mobile working throughout the UK (based at home).


The individual will be based at home however, the work will be UK wide and the individual will be required to attend operational deliveries, generally during the night on the rail infrastructure.

Dayshift working will also be a requirement.


To undertake and successfully complete the required in house training and mentoring programme on the operational areas of the RDF (Chute, Manipulator, Clamp etc.), including pre site inspection and Load Examination.

The primary role will be to safely operate the RDF vehicles during a delivery shift. Acquire a comprehensive working knowledge of the equipment and system operation. The duties will require a high degree of manual dexterity and the ability to work under pressure.


Ensure that all work is carried out to the correct working procedures/risk assessments ensuring that Network Rails Work Safe Procedure is adhered to at all times.

Report all accidents, incidents and close calls. Take all reasonable measurers to ensure the safety, health and welfare of fellow team members and others.

Communicate effectively with team members, be courteous at all times with the rail recipient and Network Rail representative.


Assist with the integration of new/replacement/stand-in personnel into the team and maintain a positive interest in the welfare of the other team members.


At the company's discretion will be required to act as mentor, passing on skills and experience to new starts and existing operators identified through assessment as requiring support.

Assist the Supervisor to compile routine reports and statistics, ensuring that they are accurate and submitted on time.

Be prepared to carry out any other work within capability.


Ensure that any job related vehicles, equipment and facilities allotted for contract use are maintained in a clean, tidy and safe condition Ensuring that any defects that are found are reported in a timely manner.


GCSE grade C (or grade 4 from 2017) in Maths and English or equivalent and have good communication skills (verbal and written).


Previous Railway experience of On Track Machines/On Track Plant/Engineering Trains would be advantageous however, suitable training will be provided to the successful applicant.

Knowledge and experience of PTS based activities on the UK Network Rail managed infrastructure would be beneficial.

Must have a full valid driving licence.

Once competent, ensure all activities are undertaken within the CCFM MOW, under control of the CCFM RDF Supervisor


Will work as a member of a team of multi skilled operatives, liaising and working with other operatives within a team culture.

S/he will work under the control of the RDF Supervisor(s), reporting in to the RDF Operations Manager.


Basic 47.5 hours per week plus any additional hours as required worked on any 5 out of 7 days (variable shifts covering 24/7).

Shift working and overtime working attracts 1.25 and 1.50 x basic rate.

25 days annual plus 8 public/bank

Be aware of Health & Safety legislation and Rail Group Standards ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures and safe systems of work particularly applicable to working in a railway environment.

Actively participate in promoting safe practices of work.


Will have undergone and passed a Railway Group Standards, medical and drugs and alcohol tests as well as be willing to participate in any future random tests.

Will have completed and successfully achieved a PTS/DP/COSS course where applicable.

Transport will be provided via collection and drop off from the home address.

Must be eligible to work in the UK.
