We currently manage and supply Nordic tipis for weddings and events across Herefordshire, the Midlands, the Cotswolds and into Wales and have a busy season of events lined up for 2024 and beyond.

Job Description - Tipi Rigging Crew Lead

  • Overall responsibility for the seamless delivery of Java Tipis events, executed to required standards at varying sites.
  • Responsibility for the management of Java Tipis vehicles and rigging crew whilst in transit and on route to events.
  • Driving responsibility for Java Tipis fleet vehicles and trailers as required per event.
  • Responsible for being the direct link between Java Tipis Operational Director and the tipi rigging crew team for implementing all aspects of operations including health and safety, staff training, staff performance, procedural review, equipment updates, client liaison, event alterations and more.
  • Responsible for managing a team of 36 crew, guiding the team to achieve the successful build of Scandinavian style tipi / tipis at a variety of different events.
  • Responsible for creating a collaborative work environment and determining the direction of a particular event, project or program.
  • Expected to provide training, guidance and instruction to the tipi rigging crew to ensure all required build / derig times are achieved and to the required standard, from a single tipi through to a multiple tipi link setup.
  • Responsible for leading onsite team briefing at start of every tipi build and derig.
  • Responsible, onsite, for the correct marking out for single to multiple link tipi set ups.
  • Responsible, onsite, for delegating work to rigging crew members, managing progress towards goals, and coaching team members as needed. (Essentially providing a mentorship role to the tipi rigging crew team.)
  • Expected to provide context to the tipi rigging crew team, so team members understand why their work matters and how their work fits into the larger company vision. (With that context, team members can more effectively prioritize tasks and ensure they get their highestimpact work done at the right time.)
  • Management of client handover that offers a comprehensive overview of the tipis, focusing on required safety briefings and essential checks throughout event duration, where possible gain written build sign off from clients and video record of completed event builds.
  • Accountability for sign off on (prior to leaving the storage unit and prior to leaving site) specific event tipis / build plans and associated equipment (Live Inventory documentation), including safe loading/ lashing of all required equipment, tools etc (Trailer checklist).
  • Responsible for documenting and reporting any damages to equipment, tools, fleet vehicles / trailers, injuries to staff at work to Operational director.
  • Expected to attend weekly meetings with account managers to clarify specifics of forthcoming builds to aid seamless provision of events.
  • Provision of planned and emergency event support as required (incl. weekends and bank holidays).
