JOB PURPOSE
To work towards the achievement of better outcomes for children, young people and families by delivering detached and outreach services across the borough, that identify vulnerable children and young people, primarily aged between 11-19 years (25 if SEND), that would not normally engage with support services in line with the aims and priorities of the Council's youth strategy.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- To undertake detached work directly with young people in a variety of settings, wherever young people meet and develop their social education by providing programmes of activities, services and facilities.
- To identify, target and work with young people who are involved in antisocial behaviour and related disorder to identify their needs and introduce a programme of activities to provide new positive opportunities and experiences.
- To utilize intelligence from partners including the Safer Communities Street Officers and the Police to work in areas recognised as "hot spots" and provide consistent and regular youth work support.
- To be an effective member of the Anti-Social Behaviour Team with responsibility for responding to and the prevention of ASB
- To manage and prioritize own workload to ensure the effective and prompt responses to reports of ASB and to mitigate any risk of harm to the person reporting the complaint or the wider community.
- To act as a professional witness where necessary and appropriate to do so and be responsible for providing direct and indirect support and reassurance to those who report ASB, noise nuisance or hate incidents.
- To ensure timely and accurate recording of all relevant information on managed cases on the ASB database and Electronic Document Management Systems.
- To promote current programmes to meet the needs of young people in consultation with young people/colleagues/other services.
- Build a model of trusted relationships with young people to help engage them in positive activities, education, training, employment, and support.
- To effectively liaise with members of the Safe and Sound Partnership and other internal and external individuals and organisations to ensure excellent customer service and an effective response to reports of ASB
- Engage young people and their families into Youth services and Early Help services across the borough.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
- Delivery of innovative programmes of open access and targeted detached and outreach youth work, which meets the needs of children, young people and families; facilitating the development of physical health, emotional wellbeing, supporting educational attainment, and preventing / reducing youth crime.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people in all contexts, with awareness of the risks that may be faced in respect of physical health and emotional wellbeing, educational attainment, sexual development, CSE, crime and gang activity, and personal finance.
- Engage and build respectful, honest, challenging and supportive relationships with young people including those who may previously have had little contact with services and may be hard to reach.
- Assess and balance risk and vulnerability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
- Establish an inclusive culture where all are welcome and supported to participate, and where respect, honesty, and trust enables children and young people to thrive.
- Support and provide effective pathways and access to appropriate services and provision so that children, young people and families receive the help they need at the earliest opportunity.
- Develop initiatives and partnerships that encourage young people to build strong links with their local community and support the growth of positive perceptions of young people.
- Carry out administrative tasks relating to the team and project delivery.
- Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation is completed in relation to activities delivered.
Partnerships And Stakeholder Working
- To maintain active partnerships and relationships with other organisations that directly impact the project under your supervision and responsibility; including local authority, schools, police and other interested parties to ensure effective engagement with hardtoreach young people
- Work across geographical areas to engage children and young people, adults, parents, local businesses, Schools, faith groups etc to assist the development of a robust joint neighbourhood assessment and neighbourhood plan for keeping young people safe using principles of contextual safeguarding.
- Share information about young people with other agencies to manage the risks to themselves and others and promote their welfare in line with the requirements of all relevant legislation.
