Description
SLR have a fantastic opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join us as a Graduate Process Safety Consultant. This position will develop into a client-facing role that will require a mix of technical and soft skills.

Working under the close supervision of technical leads, you will be involved in a range of activities related to process safety engineering and the plant lifecycle (design, operation and maintenance), for clients within the high hazard industries.


The role
You will have the opportunity to develop skills to be involved in and support the following:


  • Safety engineering studies, including:
  • Gap analyses against the Dangerous Substances Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) or applicable standards;
  • Development of Explosion Prevention Documents (EPDs) and Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) drawings;
  • Onsite surveys of chemical process plant against relevant documentation, e.g. Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
Acting as scribe for a range of hazard identification and risk assessment studies, including:

  • Hazard Identification (HAZID) / Process Hazard Analysis (PHA);
  • Hazard and Operability (HAZOP);
  • Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA);
- 'As low as reasonably practicable' (ALARP) demonstration.


Regulatory support, including:

  • Development of safety reports under the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations;
  • COMAH notifications;

Bespoke or contributary risk assessments, including:

  • Predictive and Environmental Risk Assessment (PRA/ERA)
  • Occupied Buildings Risk Assessment (OBRA)
  • Consequence modelling utilising the PHAST and ADMS software packages.
  • Other bespoke studies including Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA).

About you
The role will require an individual with the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree in engineering (Process or Chemical);
  • Systematic and analytical thinking and problem solving capability;
  • Excellent communications skills (written, oral and listening);
  • Excellent selfstarter with a natural ability to work under own initiative; and
  • Aptitude for sitebased activity and travel.
