Main duties of the job:


This is an exciting time to be working at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, one of the biggest NHS Trusts in the UK, delivering care to more than 1.6 million people a year through our three main hospitals: Barnet, Chase Farm and Royal Free.


In therapy services we recognise the importance of therapy assistants and how important they are to the functioning of the team and to the wellbeing of our patients.

As part of our workforce redesign we are recruiting more therapy assistants than ever before.

If you are interested in a role supporting patients to achieve what matters to them by working with the therapy team then this role will be of interest to you.

The therapy team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and dietitians in our inpatient teams.


We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic person to join our Inpatient Medical & Surgical Team who has experience of working with people with health needs.

Our therapy assistants work in Inpatient multi-disciplinary teams across the hospital such as:

Health Services for Elderly People, Orthopaedics, Respiratory and Cardiology, Acute and community neurosciences, Amputees and vascular patients.

  • Good General education to GCSE level
  • Good written communication
  • Ability to keep legible records in English

Desirable criteria:


  • Maths and English to GCSE level

Experience:


Essential criteria:


  • Previous experience of interaction with the public/patients
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Basic computer skills
  • Experience of supervising/teaching individuals

Desirable criteria:


  • Involvement in a caring role in a healthcare facility
  • Previous experience working with people within the healthcare enviroment

Skills:


Essential criteria:


  • An understanding of the skills required for effective team working
  • An understanding of the impact of disability and issues related to promoting independence
  • Able to manage own time and take responsibility for routine tasks
  • Ability to prioritise between urgent and routine tasks
  • An understanding of the role of the following Therapy services: Physiotherapy Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Podiatry and Dietetics
  • Good communication skills with staff, patients and carers
  • Positive and respectful attitude to people with a disability
  • Ability to follow Trust policies and procedures, including data protection, equal opportunities and health & safety
  • General interest in Therapy Services and willingness to increase knowledge
  • Ability to work alone and use initiative
