Vardey Recruitment is retained to recruit an Accountant to join Rowans Hospice to be appointed as the Finance Manager, based in Purbrook near Waterlooville/Portsmouth (Hampshire).

This fantastic job would interest an ambitious Accountant / Assistant Accountantkeen to step into a Finance Manager Job role, or a Financial Controller keen to work for this amazing cause.

Working closely with the fantastic Financial Director, who will offer training and development if required; and as a team you will lead the Financefunction forward.


About Rowans Hospice - Portsmouth Region

Rowans provide free care and support to adults in the local community who have life-limiting illness and this extends to the families as well.

Their dedicated hospice care is available round the clock in house or at home, as well as offering services for dayvisitors in their Living Well Centre.


Job role

The Finance Manager will join the team at an exciting time of growth and change and will support the charity's financial and accounting procedures and processes, driving change and improvements working as the financial lead.

Ensuring that all income and expenditureis accounted for.

Working closely with the Finance Director, as a team you will lead the finance function of 6, bringing in new systems, improving reporting and working as a business partner to the other departments; to enable the charity to move forward andprovide more help to the people in the Portsmouth community.


Key duties include

  • Support the FD with the preparation of the annual and statutory accounts according to yearend timetable.
  • Responsible for the production of the management accounts at month end.
  • The Accountants Job will be to supervise balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow, budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide analysis and insight into past results and future expected outcomes for the charity.
  • Working closely with the FD to understand the causes for deviations and look at strategies for improvements
  • The Accountants job is to ensure payroll and pensions activity is accurate and timely
  • Supporting with the management of the finance team to include KPI reviews, workflow planning, training and development and mentoring.
  • The Finance Manager will be a business partner to the charity to maximise collaborative working and to integrate finance into the service and show the value of the finance function in decision making and other operational decisions
  • Oversee the development of the ERP system driving it forward.
  • Provide information and analysis of costs to provide a focus for all budget holders to enable them to review their costs and make the right decisions.
  • The Accountant will act as the Financial Lead in the organisation.
  • To be a catalyst and champion for change and implement new practices to transform the finance function

Who should apply?

  • A fully qualified accountant or part qualified accountant
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent or an accountant qualified by experience ideally living in the Portsmouth Region.
  • A Finance Manager, Management Accountant or Assistant Accountant or even an experienced Financial Controller keen to work for Rowans Hospice.
  • Business partnering skills and commercially astute
  • Proven people management experience ideally
  • Solution focused with good interpersonal skills
  • A Finance Manager/Accountant with Influencing skills
  • Able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, manage to deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A Finance Manager with good verbal and written communication skills at all levels including active listening.
  • Experience with systems development, strong IT skills.

In return
- £40,000-£45,000 depending on experience and qualifications
