Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity (the charity) are excited to be expanding their team and are looking for creative, dynamic and diligent individuals to join them.

This is an exciting time to join the charity with ample opportunities to make your mark as we look to launch our latest multi-million charity appeal that will make a transformational difference to patients, their families and carers at the hospital.


This is a new role that will be responsible for generating income from major donors for a £4m fundraising appeal to deliver much-needed patient, family and carer accommodation located on the hospital site in Truro.


There has long been a need for some dedicated accommodation so that loved ones can be together during the most stressful of times, with many families travelling hours to reach the hospital.

Providing a much more holistic offer than simply a place to stay, the accommodation will improve accessibility to care and bring significant benefit for patients, families and carers, including respite, mental health support a place to cook meals and meet others in similar situations.


The Senior Philanthropy Officer will be a part of the Appeal Team managed by the Appeal Director working closely with an established fundraising team already within the charity to deliver the largest fundraising appeal the Charity has ever launched.


The Senior Philanthropy Officer is a new role which is part of the expanding fundraising team to raise funds for the latest multi-million capital appeal.

This appeal will be raising funds for a new 18 room patient & family accommodation unit located on the Treliske site in Truro which will be built alongside the new Women & Children's Hospital.

The appeal will be largest the charity has ever established and will transform the experience of families and patients during the most stressful of times in hospital.

The most important knowledge, skills & experience required includes:

  • Superb interpersonal skills, and comfortable making direct contact with individual donors to discuss interest and commitment.
  • Knowledge of philanthropic networks in Cornwall and further afield.
  • Excellent ability to assimilate complex information and translate into compelling material.
  • Selfmotivated with ability to operate and work effectively using own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Proven experience of raising funds from new business ideally from major donors.
  • Experience of developing effective relationships across an organisation to achieve mutual objectives and of working across functions, to maximise income generation opportunities.
  • Budget holder experience to ensure that targets are met, proposal budgets are accurately set and financial reports of grantees are accurate.

Key responsibilities include:


Proactively develop strategic, face to face relationships with new and existing high value supporters, delivering excellent stewardship and cultivation and asking at the right time for multi-year financial support.


Work closely with the Appeal Director to create and implement a robust major donor fundraising strategy to raise funds for the appeal and projects post-appeal.


Work with the Appeal Director and other members of the fundraising team as well as the Senior Executive Team, Charitable Funds Board, NHS staff and senior volunteers to build sustainable relationships with major donors.

Work with the Prospect Researcher to gain insight into donors and prospects to inform donor development plans.
