Working as part of the Strategy, Planning and Operations function, this role will support the development of a new planning operation and help establish the processes, governance and controls to underpin the smooth operation of the department with a key focus on risk and budgeting.

Key responsibilities for this role


Planning - support the Strategy, Planning and Operations Manager to establish, maintain and evolve an effective planning function that supports the delivery of the collective corporate affairs strategy.

Support the establishment and ongoing delivery of an efficient infrastructure for the function helping to drive operational excellence across the team to deliver and sustain high performance


Key areas include:
Risk and Compliance - support the function in meeting applicable risk and compliance frameworks, policies and/or standards:
Determination of business risks and mapping of key controls required to mitigate those risks;

  • Assessment of control effectiveness/gaps and remediation of controls that are ineffective and deployment of mitigation strategies where controls need to be enhanced;
  • Appropriate calibration, measurement and reporting of control status escalating matters as appropriate and liaising with Risk and Compliance functions as appropriate;
  • Providing check and challenge through engagement with stakeholders and ensuring business confidence in risk assurance processes;
  • Establish and facilitate a new Risk and Control monthly forum, underpinned by a dashboard that includes key risk and performance indicators;
  • Recording and tracking analysis nearmisses/breaches root cause analysis, identification and remediation of core trends / themes;
  • Support the conclusion of any open audit issues by working to build an action plan;
  • Budgets and finance day to day running of department's budget and acting as a key point of contact with finance, financial planning and reporting ensuring all spend is within agreed parameters.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Strategy, Planning and Operations Manager.
Key knowledge, skills and experience

  • Understanding of M&G's governance, risk and financial processes and policies would be helpful. If not experience of managing budgets and risk processes in a similar organisation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Relationship building skills and/or experience of working with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • A positive proactive attitude and ability to foster links between teams.
  • Able to work both individually and in a collegiate and collaborative manner. Team player and the ability to work as part of an extremely fast paced team.
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) familiar with working in Microsoft Teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Flexible approach, with the ability to respond to changing needs.
  • A proactive and "no surprises" approach in communicating issues.
