We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Molecular Virology to join the laboratory of Professor. Julian Hiscox. The research in the laboratory is focused on human coronaviruses (SARS-CoV-2, MERS-CoV and seasonal human coronaviruses).

This project fits within our general theme of viral evolution and host interactions in the presence and absence of medical countermeasures (MCMs) (anti-viral and vaccines).

This role specifically focuses on MERS-CoV and seasonal human coronaviruses as a model and the development and use of sub-viral assays and work at Containment Level 3 on live virus to understand viral biology.

With a particular focus on variants of MERS-CoV. The work is funded under a contract from the US Food and Drug Administration medical countermeasures program.

The project will focus on the replicas of MERS-CoV by developing appropriate in vitro assays and the functioning of variants of this complex in the presence and absence of MCMs, and is in collaboration with the team of Professor.

Andrew Davidson at the University of Bristol (a partner on the FDA award).

You will join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team currently consisting of five PDRAs and ten PhD students investigating coronaviruses, Ebola virus and biological and chemical threat agents.

You will have a PhD in virology.

This post is fixed term until 14 September 2025.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.

Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
