Job Introduction:

This exciting opportunity is for a commissioning co-ordinator in BBC Drama.

Working at the heart of Drama commissioning in the UK, you would be working in the department that commissions a huge range of popular dramas - from long running favourites such as EastEnders, Silent Witness and Dr Who through to ambitious and award winning series like Boarders, Blue Lights, Vigil, The Sixth Commandment and Boiling Point.


We work with some of the foremost drama companies, writers and directing talent in the industry, both new and established.

As a commissioning co-ordinator you would work within a small team (we are calling a pod) consisting of commissioning co-ordinator, a commissioning exec and a commissioner, within the wider BBC Drama commissioning department.


Main Responsibilities:


A core member of the commissioning team, you will work closely with a commissioner and commissioning exec across submissions, development and one or two productions, also providing core administrative support.


You will manage the co-ordination of proposals sent to your commissioning pod and assist the commissioner and commissioning exec in assessing proposals/scripts and rejecting/ progressing/ allocating ideas; you will champion the continuous improvement of the commissioning processes and play a key part in ensuring effective communication across the department around submissions and development.

It will be a core part of your role to ensure that each activity is handled effectively and efficiently within your pod and across the department.


You will be a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders and expected to provide editorial and administrative assistance, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the department, making sure we meet our commissioning commitments, as set out in our Commissioning Process Framework.


You would also support the commissioner and/or commissioning exec on one or two productions - watching cuts, providing notes etc and where appropriate, and supporting the editorial, legal and compliance activities on projects within your commissioning pod.


You will provide Awards Coordination for their commissioning pod and wider team - compiling Awards suggestions, collating programme details and submitting for consideration.


They will have experience of reading Drama or Film scripts and providing analysis, as well as a knowledge of the TV Drama landscape, across platforms and broadcasters.

They must have strong administrative skills including the ability to prioritise their own workload to meet deadlines.

They will be a self-motivated, confident communicator and be able to communicate articulately verbally and in writing to a wide range of people both inside and outside the BBC.

They will be competent in using a range of software packages, including Microsoft Office and Excel.

They will have previous experience or knowledge of the commissioning processes/cycle, along with awareness of the new Ofcom regulations & code of practice and have an informed interest in content making and a demonstrable aptitude for detail and accuracy in all areas.
