Cornwall Council has an interesting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Bereavement Service Team Leader to be based at Penmount Crematorium, Truro.


Penmount undertakes approximately 1600 cremations per annum on the twenty-eight acre site two miles outside the Cathedral City of Truro with a permanent workforce of twelve.

There is also a wildflower natural burial site at Penmount.

Cornwall Council has operational and closed cemeteries across Cornwall and maintenance and health & safety responsibility for nearly 100 closed churchyards.


The role is responsible for supporting the Bereavement Services Manager in the management, provision and administration of an efficient, effective and caring service for the bereaved within Cornwall, ensuring that all legal statutes are complied with including contributing to the development of the Service.


The role will ensure the delivery of high-quality service to its users, Funeral Directors and maintains the presentation of a good image for the Crematorium; also, this role will act as system administrator for the computerised administration database and in the absence of the Bereavement Services Manager and will act as lead officer for the service which will include the strategic management of Cornwall's cemeteries.

This role will act as Health & Safety lead officer for all activities on-site.

To monitor and record all activities carried out within the Bereavement Service and ensure all legal and health & safety procedures are being carried out within the necessary guidelines.

To monitor and arrange all staff training to the required standards for their roles. To arrange all necessary building works and repair orders for the buildings within the site.


This is a full time position and you should have a flexible-working attitude to encompass, amongst other duties, the Saturday and Sunday service provision offered at Penmount.

The normal duties of the role will involve travel on a regular or occasional basis.

It is a condition of employment that you can exercise satisfactory travel mobility in order to fulfil the obligations of the role.
