PART-TIME POST / HOURS PER WEEK

A vacancy has arisen within the Mercian PCN -Tamworth District Nursing Team for a Band 2 Community Phlebotomist.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our community team, providing care to clients in their own homes.

The post holder will be part of the Community Nursing Team taking bloods from patients in their own homes and residential settings.

Obtaining consistently high quality blood samples for subsequent laboratory analysis.


You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to organise and prioritise your workload without direct supervision.

You should be committed to delivering a high quality service through an integrated and holistic approach to patient care.

Past experience within the community setting is desirable, but not essential. There will be opportunities for personal development through supervision and formal learning.

The post holder will provide a phlebotomy service to patients supporting the Community Nursing Team. There will be a requirement to provide advice and information to patients and their carers as appropriate.

The post holder will be required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information concerning patients, staff and sensitive Trust business at all times.

1.1 Demonstrates accurate, competent technique when taking blood samples from the patients, completing laboratory forms clearly and accurately with patient details, and specifying test requested (speed is required when working in a clinic setting).


1.2 Delivers a high quality venepuncture service in the community, taking into consideration the patient's physical, social and emotional care needs.


1.3 Monitors programmes of care ensuring that routine blood tests are carried out on a regular basis and in a timely manner.


1.4 Takes appropriate action relating to any changes in a patient's condition or circumstances, reporting to the appropriate person without delay.

1.5 Undertakes venepuncture for patients as requested by the GP's and secondary care and other professionals.

1.6 Works without direct supervision organising own workload, frequently working under pressure to accommodate appointment times.

1.7 Maintains accurate records as required by the Trust policy, providing evidence of high quality record keeping skills.


1.8 Within own scope of practice offers advice and information to patients and relatives when required, documenting accordingly in the patient's record.

1.9 Takes responsibility for maintaining own skills, competencies and knowledge in order to deliver a high quality phlebotomy service.

1.10 Participates in further training when required, demonstrating a commitment to continuing professional development.
