Working for Midland Oil
Midland Oil been blending Industrial Lubricants and providing oil regeneration and distillation services to industry for over 60 years.

They have an extensive customer base in the UK and export to countries worldwide, covering industries from Aerospace,Automotive, shipyards, to name a few.

They're looking for meticulous people like you to assist with the day-to-day production testing at their laboratory based in Halesowen, West Midlands.

This won't be a sterile environment so requires someone who's not afraid to get stuck in.

The Package

In this role you'll receive:

  • Starting salary of £5.60 ph (rises to NMW by age after 12 months)
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Workings hours are 37.5 hours per week
  • Early finishes on Friday

What will I be doing as an apprentice?
In this role, you'll be a key player in the day-to-day production testing of industrial lubricants.

You will be responsible for the efficient analysis of customer-based enquiry samples that will include the testing of routine and customer complaints, andthe preparation of samples to be supplied to the customer either direct or through customer service managers.

Your goal will be to learn how to analyse samples to ensure compliance and determine their suitability for recovery.


A typical day consists of:


  • Working closely with production management and production staff to ensure the smooth running of the site.
  • Being responsible for the analysis of incoming bulk oils to ensure suitability to process through the plant.
  • Keeping accurate records on waste material arriving onsite.
  • Assist with running of all operational and other sampling requirements


Just know that as an apprentice you will be working as part of a close-knit team, so you won't be alone.

You'll be supported and guided, learning on the job, by a team of experienced technicians to gain official qualifications that'll boost your career.

There's no limit to what you can achieve if you work for Midland Oil, with potential for the successful applicant to be offered a full-time position working with the business at the end of the apprenticeship.


Through 'on-the-job' training you'll have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain an in-depth perspective on the day-to-day running of a business and what each member of the team contributes to ensure the smooth running of the company.

Experience
Whilst previous experience is great, we at Tiro are always open to wildcards.

Qualifications
It's about enthusiasm, not school results. In our experience the most successful apprentices are those who are driven to find out more about the sector, can be up front about what they do and don't already know, are considerate, self-reflective, and impatientto learn the job role


About You
We are looking for someone who is focused and meticulous in all aspects of work.

Someone who displays a willingness to work within a team to achieve an end goal and to provide the necessary support in reaching that goal.

You must be customer-focused, understanding the importance of ensuring information is delivered clearly and in an easy-to-understand way for customers and employers.

Being proactive in your own development and willingness to commit to lifelong learning and development is key.

So how does the Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship work?


At Tiro we're obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can't wait to have you on board.

Over 21 months, you'll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on 'off the job' training.

This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spentwriting assignments.

Together this will count towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship.

You'll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at Midland Oil who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills,and work habits you'll need to succeed in your career.

Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you'll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.

The best part? You'll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme
