Job title:
Specialist Children and Families Practitioner SEND


Responsible to:
Tracy Rodgers


Purpose of the job:
To work as part of a small team in our Hugi Hub and Den Centre.

You will be a crucial part of providing an exciting, magical and high quality early years/primary experience for the children in a hygge philosophy, nurturing, indoor and woodland setting.


  • Work with the team to deliver high quality alternative provision.
  • Help us to promote a happy, caring and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Be keen to learn and develop continued professional development.
  • There will also be opportunities to do other short training courses with Hugi Hub and Den.
  • To take on increasing responsibility for a caseload of children, ensuring they have access to and participate in a range of indoor/outdoor learning and play opportunities.
  • Assist with the recording and reporting of children's learning, care and development.
  • To be aware of and follow all Hugi Hub and Den policies and procedures.
  • Work with multiagency team including social care, sendsars, speech and language therapy.
  • Support snack/meal times within the setting.
  • Support children with hygiene & personal care.
  • Actively participate at team meetings, supervision meetings and appraisal meetings. We are a small team and value everyone's ideas, thoughts, creativity and suggestions to make our setting the best it can be.
  • Be prepared to carryout out reach visits to schools, car essential.
  • To attend relevant training to keep skills and knowledge uptodate.
  • To comply with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job.

Special Educational Needs Specific
To be a key person to a child and follow their case with support from the team

To follow targets on My Plan and Education Health Care Plans.


This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder will be required to undertake any other reasonable duties discussed and directed by the line manager.

The post holder is also expected to be flexible and adaptable in their approach to fulfilling their duties.

Person Specification:


  • Happy to be outside in all weathers and don't mind getting muddy
  • Enjoy working with young children and have some experience (this can be voluntary)
  • Happy to sing songs, play games and be really enthusiastic about mud soup, mud tea, worms, sticks and leaves
  • Experience of working with children with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • We are open to consider your qualifications but ideally one of the following: Level 3 Practitioner, Childcare and Education, Teaching Assistant Qualification, Teaching Qualification.
  • We would also consider a therapist/mental health practitioner who could offer more mental health support to our children.
Committed to Inclusive Practice. Knowledge & understanding of child development from birth to ten years and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) / National Curriculum
Understanding of the Forest School ethos.
Good communication skills. Good team player.


This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and does require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Applicants must be prepared to disclose

Salary:
From £9.50 per hour


Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • No weekends

Education:


  • A-Level or equivalent (preferred)
