Join Sulzer Services UK at our Avonmouth Service Centre where you will set up and operate machining equipment, using a variety of lathes, turning centres and borers.

You will also be required to carry out basic mechanical fitting work.


In this role you will be accountable for:

  • Calculating dimensions and tolerances
  • Machining parts to very specific specifications using tools such as lathes, milling machines, machining centres, borers, and grinders
  • Measuring, examining, and testing completed components to detect defects and ensuring conformance to required specifications
  • Setting up, adjusting, and operating all the basic turning and machining centres and tools for maximum precision
  • Monitoring the performance of machinery during processes
  • Selecting the correct tools, machines, materials, and layout of stock in preparation to complete tasks efficiently
  • Dismantling and assembly of motors, gearboxes, and pumps. Measuring and recording build tolerances and ability to determine parts that require repair.
  • Assembly and fitting of white metal bearings
  • Monitoring and reviewing information to strive for continuous improvement and find best solutions for completing tasks efficiently whilst maintaining the highest quality, safety, and consideration for environmental factors

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Experience of machining small to heavy industrial components from a wide range of industries including power, steel, crushing, mining, forging, cement, chemical, power, rail, oil, gas, water
  • Apprentice trained/time served machining qualification
  • Experience of working within a heavy engineering/machining background and experience of using large, manual machine tools
  • Strong communication skills in both verbal and written
  • A strong and dedicated approach to Health & Safety and the desire to positively participate in improving of the Health & Safety culture of the organisation
