Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology (Full time-10PAs)With a sub-specialty interest in Cataracts, Oculoplastics and Corneal
We are looking for a Locum Consultant to support the service recovery plan over the coming 6 months, participate in service development projects and work closely with the wider MDT to deliver the best care to our patients.
There are many service improvements underway within the Ophthalmology department at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital and in the region.
- the implementation of an Ophthalmic EPR
- the development of the out of hours service for the Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) region
- The theatres pathway improvement project
- The development of a business case to relocate the Ophthalmology service offsite to increase capacity
- Developing allied health professional and nursing roles
- To provide high quality care to all patients presenting to the Ophthalmology Service.
- To support the subspecialty areas of Cataracts, Oculoplastics and Corneal. This includes delivery of clinics, elective theatre sessions, minor procedures and involvement in service developments.
- To work collaboratively with the Ophthalmology triumvirate (Clinical Director, Head of Nursing and General Manager) and the wider multidisciplinary team to actively support service improvements within the service.
- Teaching, training and supervision of the Ophthalmology multidisciplinary team.
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust meetings and matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. This includes responding to incident investigations and complaints.
- To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
Ophthalmology is the busiest outpatient specialty, with the Luton and Dunstable Hospital (L&D) providing approximately 35,000 outpatient appointments and 14,000 interventions or procedures annually prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
The service at the Luton and Dunstable hospital supported by a large team of medical, nursing, allied health professionals (AHPs) and the administrative team.
There are a number of exciting developments underway to enable to service provide the best clinical care to the local population.
