About the role

We are looking for an Operational Supervisor to support our M&E maintenance technicians and ISU crew in our Dartford depot.


You will be responsible for ensuring that all Team members are thoroughly briefed on the works they are to undertake, ensure staff are working safely, efficiently and effectively.


You will also ensure the safe and uninterrupted crossing for all road users, being responsible for all operational aspects and administration of the directly employed workforce, contractors and resources.


What you'll be doing

  • To be conversant with the operation of all electrical / mechanical plant within the Dartford River Crossing (Tunnels and Bridge)
  • Ensure implementation of all TBT's; Safety alerts; DWB's and new procedures
  • Prepare and deliver suitable works briefings, which adequately identify the work methodology, highlight the onsite hazards & risks along with control measures to be implemented.
  • Ensure that all work activities are adequately managed ensuring that the identified works methodology is adhered to.
  • Ensure that a detailed debrief is completed for all works activities at the end of each shift so that any identified issues can be resolved.
  • Manage Scouting of Site i.e. A282; A2 & M25, including checking tasks are completed to a good standard.
  • Manage the allocation of suitable resources to address Vegetation clearance; litter picking; strimming; mowing & weed spraying requirements.
  • Manage the Contractors who attend site including Signing in and checking inductions RAMS ensuring that SM is aware of special requirements i.e., Permits and Isolations.
  • Take an active role in the compliance of Contractual requirements including Primary Response, Secondary Response, reactive & planned preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure that accurate records are maintained for all activities and that that information is collected to demonstrate 3rd party accountability.
  • Participate in the production of risk assessments and method statements.
  • Management of Depot fleet including compliance with Drivers Hours recording, Vehicle Defect reporting and analysis of Fleet Reports for Depot vehicles transgressions such as Speeding.
  • Provide cover for Shift Manager if required.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • CSCS card holder
  • Supervisor
  • Previous experience in highway maintenance programs delivered to cost target and time.
  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety and quality and environment standards within a highways context
  • Competent user of IT systems
  • Current UK driving licence.
  • Proven experience of managing & leading multidisciplinary teams
  • The ability to communicate verbally with clarity and authority to engage operatives, colleagues and management.
  • The ability to write clear and understandable briefings and handover notes and keep full and accurate records.

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Previous Electrical / mechanical trade specific role
  • SSSTS/ SMSTS
  • Current UK driving license LGV Class
  • Knowledge and experience of Severe Weather and Incident Management
  • Previous experience in highway maintenance on a live motorway or All-Purpose Trunk Road (APTR) network

About us
CPS is a joint Venture project with Balfour Beatty, Atkins, and Egis. We operate and maintain the M25.

The M25 is the busiest section of motorway in Europe and requires careful and efficient planning of work in order to deliver over £100m of annual investment in the highway infrastructure each year, in addition to planned and reactive maintenance activity.
