Head of Product Development, Electronics, Woodstock, £60,000 - £70,000pa plus bonus and benefits:

MARS Recruitment is proud to have exclusively partnered a market leading manufacturer of scientific instrumentation in their search for a Head of Product Development.

This business has steadily grown over the last 20 years and are currently going througha period of exciting change which you could be part of.

Having recently launched a new cutting-edge product which is getting rave reviews and orders from customers, they have just moved into a state-of-the-art manufacturing site with amazing offices.


As the Head of Product Development, you will manage a small but growing Product Development & Engineering team which comprises of five staff.

You will be passionate about Product Development and Design, leading your team with an energetic approach keepingthem driven and focused at all times.

You will be responsible for the team on a daily basis, including recruitment, 1-2-1's, training and mentoring.

Your will have technical oversight and leadership, getting involved with the design elements of the products,plus with overall project management of the new and existing product development projects that the team are currently running.

About you:


The successful Head of Product Development will need to be degree educated in a relevant Engineering Discipline; ideally Electronic however others will be considered.

You will also have a combination of the following:


  • Experience managing engineering staff both operationally and technically
  • Experience in the delivery of hardware and systems engineering projects
  • Experience & passion for earlystage R&D with 'handson' exposure to prototype hardware builds.
  • Experienced with the product lifecycle, managing the transition from concept / feasibility, prototype to production.
  • Needs to be familiar and 'handson' with design, testing and debugging of complex electrooptical hardware / software ideally with scientific instrumentation or similar lowvolume highvalue customised builds.
  • Discipline expert ideally in Electronics with an ability to discuss and contribute in other key discipline areas such as Mechanical, Electrical and Software engineering.
  • Possess solid mathematical skills underpinned by a good knowledge of electronics at the digital logic / register / binary data level.
  • Familiarity in analogue electronics design including lownoise transistor/opamp amplifiers, signal conditioners, filters, ADC front ends, DAC backends etc.
  • Awareness of design approaches and testing methodologies for RFI / EMC testing, safety and Low Voltage Directive, reliability (HALT/ HASS) with other standards such as RoHS, Reach, WEEE, Conflict Minerals etc.
  • Experience of designing complex SMT multilayer PCBs (desirable)
  • Experience using simulation tools (desirable)
Our client is offering an excellent salary of up to £70,000, plus a yearly bonus, pension, flexible working.

This role would really suit someone who wants to develop and grow a Product Development & Engineering team over the coming years.
