We are seeking to appoint a Scientific Officer (Teaching) with an interest in Parasitology and Entomology and a desire to teach.

The post is within the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

The post-holder will assist the Head of Teaching and Diagnostics Unit with the provision of practical classes and practical assessments within the School's MSc and short course programme.

Teaching is a primary function of this role.


The post-holder will assist the Principal Scientific Officer with the day-to-day provision of practical Parasitology and Entomology teaching within the Faculty and act as a technical demonstrator in practical classes including MSc Core Parasitology and Entomology, Basic Parasitology, Advanced Diagnostic Parasitology, Vector Pathogen Interaction, Integrated Vector Management and appropriate Control of Infectious Disease demonstrations.

The post-holder will also act as a demonstrator in short course practicals including the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.


The post-holder will be responsible for general housekeeping of the teaching laboratory including stock control and monitoring of laboratory equipment and assist in the preparation of teaching specimens, media, and reagents for practical classes and assist the Entomology Principal Scientific Officer (PSO) with the curation and upkeep of the entomology teaching collection.


Additionally, the post-holder will be expected to participate in and support the day-to-day running of the Unit's diagnostic laboratories as required.
