Design Coordinator

If so, J Murphy and Sons Ltd is currently looking for a Design Coordinator to join our award-winning team in Golborne. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Design Coordinator will assist with providing safe, practical, and economic designs for internal clients to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with company procedures.

Murphy & Sons has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients including National Grid, Cadent Gas, OPA, SGN, National Grid Ventures, on both transmission and distribution networks.

Our projects include Compressor stations, Natural Gas and LNG Terminals, AGI's, pipelines and diversions.

What you will be doing

  • Produce design briefs for temporary and permanent work.
  • Review submissions as directed for quality and sufficiency.
  • Ensure conformance to the Murphy Design Management procedure.
  • Lead design matters on small/medium sized project/s as directed.
  • Manage design coordinators on the project and within the business unit as appropriate.
  • Allocate design tasks to individuals/companies as required and maintain associated RACI.
  • Carry out staff appraisals when required and identify appropriate development activities.
  • Review design progress and detail using CAD/BIM tools.
  • Produce drawings and sketches as required using BIM/CAD tools.
  • Review temporary works and ensure appropriate consideration of constructability and permanent works.
  • Involvement in work winning to ensure consultants and engaged appropriately and adequate allowances are included in the bid.
  • Ensure that that Aconex (or client approved alternative CDE system) is kept up to date by the Document Controller and correct drawing revisions are maintained and issued to sites.
  • Monitor Information release, and check information issued is in line with the IRS.
  • Monitor, track, and report on Design progress
  • Liaise with the wider team such as Surveyors, Buyers, Contract Managers, Project Managers, Site Managers and Estimators to engender a team approach for each project.
  • Ensure an understanding of, and an influence on the contracts Design Consultants are working under including their fees, schedule of services, programme, and liabilities and warranties.

Who are we looking for?

  • MEng or BEng degree
  • Excellent knowledge of current civil engineering legislation as well as Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines.
  • Ability to produce, implement and manage safe systems of work for construction procedures.
