About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Performance and Delivery
to join the Senior leadership team at East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).

This role offers flexibility to work from any of our three hospices at Milton near Cambridge, The Treehouse in Ipswich and The Nook, near Norwich, combined with hybrid working.

Flexible working will also be considered.


EACH provides specialist care for babies, children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk and their families.

All three of our hospices are rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).


We are currently caring for over 350 families with children needing palliative and end of life care and are providing support to more than 200 bereaved families.


Our full and diverse range of services includes:

nursing care, specialist symptom management nursing, short breaks, wellbeing activities, counselling & therapies, care at end of life, bereavement support, and volunteer services in the home; all meeting the individual needs of the baby, child, young person and their whole family.


The head of performance and delivery plays a lead role in the development and operational delivery of evidence-based, personalised family-centred care services in collaboration with families and care system partners including providers, commissioners and the CQC.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will report to the director of care and work closely with a supported senior team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the director of care to transform care through identifying new business opportunities, leading on managing bids, competitive processes and internal business cases, building and forming new partnerships, improving current service provision and developing innovative approaches to service delivery.
  • Being responsible for ensuring the effective management, delivery and development of EACH services, ensuring the care directorate delivers accessible, innovative and excellent services.
  • Actively contributing to the planning and delivery of the business objectives, service plans and change projects, ensuring family focus, consistency, quality, and costeffectiveness.
  • Providing leadership, drive and transformation in the provision and development of the care service.
  • Ensuring care directorate services are developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, care system partners and especially children, young people and their families.


We are looking for someone with strong business acumen who has expertise around managing care services, ideally in a hospice service setting, as well as possessing strong strategic leadership capability with a passion to drive change to benefit those who need our care.

We're looking for someone with a 'can-do' attitude to maximise care benefits, with a compassionate style.


You will have previous experience of health and care partnerships and an understanding of the relevant health and care policy and commissioning arrangements, as well as experience in managing large budgets and exposure to managing complex projects to facilitate change.


You will bring:

  • Significant experience of performance management and service delivery.
  • Business acumen with expertise in services in a healthcare/hospice setting.
  • Track record of service improvement and driving change to benefit those who need our care.
  • Significant experience in producing management information and KPIs, to drive strategic and operational delivery improvements.
  • Provide assurances the quality of care is at the heart of the organisation, through hospicetoBoard processes enabling reliable data and information to be reported to the Board as matter of routine.
  • Evidence of leadership skills, motivation and development of people.
  • Experience of developing and managing strategic performance improvement systems.
  • Extensive programme management experience and proven track record of successful delivery of transforming projects.
