Arc is seeking, in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council:
Bank/Relief/on call Outreach Workers (Steet Homelessness/Rough Sleeping)

Salary £20,318 - £24 473, pro rata £10.42 to £12.55 per hour. Plus Mileage allowance based on skills and experience. (pay award pending from April 2023).

Hours of work Flexible on call/relief/occasional bank staff/ variable. Monday

Variable hours to mutual agreement. From early starts 7.00am variable hours through the day and some evening work available.


Based in Bridgwater, we are looking for relief bank staff with a strong client focus to help provide a street outreach and resettlement service.

Working with rough sleepers or those who have a recent history of rough sleeping.

You will help provide resettlement support to individuals, enabling them to access and sustain accommodation across Sedgemoor Council area and wider Somerset.

Your role involves responding to reports of and actively seeking people who are sleeping rough.

Working in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council Officers, and wider support agencies, building trust and providing person centred advocacy and support which enables clients to navigate pathways and progress towards a life away from the streets.


Undertaking assertive street outreach sessions and hot spot visits, including some during unsocial hours, to engage with people sleeping rough from their first point of contact and encouraging long-term change.

Many you will work with will be vulnerable, have health and wellbeing needs wider than just housing.

You will encourage and facilitate engagement with various support agencies for example mental health services, GP's, alcohol and drug support services.


Empathetic to the needs of rough sleepers, able to quickly gain their trust and build relationships, you will have experience of work with homeless people and/or outreach work with a vulnerable client group.


You will ideally have:


A working knowledge of welfare benefits, and ideally either substance misuse and/or mental health issues, and experience of engaging with support services for vulnerable client groups.

A knowledge of housing and homelessness issues and legislation would be an advantage.

Whilst comfortable working proactively on your own initiative, you will also have good motivational and team working skills.
