We require an enthusiastic, hardworking person, who is able to work unsupervised, to join our small and friendly department.
You will be involved in general reception duties, clinic preparation and other administrative tasks required to ensure the smooth running of the department.
Face to face contact with the patients, relatives and healthcare professionals is an essential part of this role, so good communication skills are required: ensuring patient satisfaction will be high on your list of objectives.
To carry out administrative duties for the Orthoptic Department including booking patients in, making appointments as they leave, preparing patient notes for clinics, answering the telephone and responding to queries from patients and colleagues.
We have also entered a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and become University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.

- Book, cancel or change patients' appointments according to clinic rules.
- Reception duties for the Orthoptic Department, ensuring all computer details are maintained correctly on the current patient administration system and that all relevant details are entered.
- Assist patients and staff with enquiries relating to the Orthoptic Service.
- Maintain a good communication network.
- Receive telephone calls and deal with telephone messages, as required.
- Ensure that requests from other wards and departments are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
- Pre and post clinic preparation, including responsibility for the tracking in and out patient records relevant for the designated clinic.
- Provide clerical support within the department.
- Re-schedule clinics as necessary.
- Photocopying as required and all other routine office duties.
- Deal with all enquiries from members of the public and colleagues

Liaise with other staff in the eye department:
liaise with the Child Development Centre with regards to their weekly assessment needs.
- To produce written statements when required by a Manager, following an involvement with any incident at work or witnessing any incident involving a patient or any other member of staff or visitor (authorised or unauthorised).
- Observe health and safety, fire and any other Trust policies.
- Any other ad hoc duties which the holder may reasonably be asked to perform.
