Duties and responsibilities:


  • The analysis of human tissue specimens including blood and respiratory samples
  • Growth of respiratory viruses
  • Planning and execute experiments using cryopreserved samples including qPCR and ELISA
  • Analysis of data arising from the project and integration with metadata, particularly using R, FlowJo and GraphPad software
  • To assist with the analysis of data
  • General laboratory administrative duties including ordering
  • To help maintain a highly efficient working laboratory
Under the direction of Dr Tregoning (Imperial), you will be involved in:

  • Planning and executing experiments
  • Developing technical expertise and carry out a range of research techniques to time and quality standards.
  • Documenting and analysing experimental data
  • Participating in local laboratory meetings

Essential requirements:


  • A Master's degree (or equivalent level of experience) in immunology or virology
  • Experience of virology and cell culture
  • Knowledge of basic research methods and statistical procedures
  • Knowledge of general laboratory practice, techniques and instrumentation
Experience in some or all of the following techniques:

  • DNA extraction and quantification
  • RNA extraction and quantification, (q)PCR
  • ELISA
  • FACS analysis
  • Western Blotting
  • Cell Culture

Further information:

This is a full time and fixed term post for 12 months. You will be based at St. Mary's Campus (Paddington) and South Kensington Campus.

  • The College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework until early 2023. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview._
