The NWAS Health, Safety, Fire and Security team are seeking to appoint two members to join them in their mission of keeping staff safe whilst in work.

The core elements of the roles are the same in that you will be a vital member of the health, safety, security, and fire team working alongside the other senior practitioners and officers under the leadership of the Head of Health, Safety, Security and Fire.


We will look to you to provide leadership which inspires, motivates, and empowers staff across NWAS to develop a positive safety culture.

It is expected you will promote open and supportive environments in which staff can deliver high quality clinical and non-clinical support service.

It is essential you can communicate effectively, and liaise and joint work within the HSSF team, wider quality management team, all directorates and with Trade Union colleagues.

The successful applicants will hold appropriate health and safety qualifications and be Chartered safety professionals.

The recruitment process will explore your leadership skills and potential including your ability to show you are able to work as part of a team.

We will expect you to demonstrate you have the competencies to deputise for the Head of Health, Safety, Security and Fire as needed.


Senior Health, Safety, Security and Fire (HSSF)

In addition, the applicant in this role will:

  • act as area HSSF point of first contact for all operational and corporate colleagues.
- contribute to health, safety, security, and fire programmes of work to support the development of our safety culture working with our patient safety specialists, front line clinicians and improvement team.

  • Support and undertake enhanced specialist risk assessments.
  • Design, deliver and enhance specialist Health, Safety, Security and Fire Training programmes.
  • Engage with and support nonclinical equipment risk assessment and procurement decisions as part of clinical equipment and vehicle design work.
  • Support stronger compliance with the HSE regulations [1974 and 2010]
  • Support novel ways of learning/training using virtual reality in alignment with the digital team.


North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.


Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.

We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.


Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
