**Interim Learning Information Officer /Librarian

Enhanced DBS required

The post includes working 2 late nights to 8 pm (Monday and Wednesday) and working alternate Saturdays 9-5.

The post holder will provide a high-quality customer focused Library and Information Service in accordance with the Council's vision, key priorities and service core principles Key responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality, customer focused Library and Heritage Services.
  • Carry out day to day duties connected with customer care and/or the maintenance and supply of stock as directed
  • Public service routines including shelving, shelf tidying, using ICT to issue and discharge borrowed items, register new users, telephone answering, and using a till for calculating charges and giving change.
  • Use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner
  • Deal with enquiries by providing accurate information and by referring on to other sources or colleagues as appropriate.
  • Adhere to good standards of customer care at all times.
  • Carry out routine aspects of library interloans procedures.
  • Promote social inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Assist in reader development and promotional activities including story reading and rhyme time activities with children of all ages.
  • Input to bibliographic databases as required.
  • Unpacking, checking and servicing new materials and/or the repair and preparation of stock
  • Assisting in purchasing routines as necessary.
  • Take responsibility for daytoday management of a service point as required.
  • Assist in staff training and supervision as necessary.
  • Produce routine statistics as required, and other clerical and administrative duties as necessary.

  • Chartered or qualified Librarian or must have experience of working in a public library or public space
  • Excellent knowledge of managing a team
  • Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety issues as they affect buildings, public and staff
  • Excellent knowledge of local and national digital agendas
  • Good knowledge of the latest developments in library & information services
  • Experience of delivering services and activities to children
Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication and customer care skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Able to communicate effectively written and verbal, with staff and public, face to face and by telephone.
  • Good Attention to Detail
  • Able to undertake reader development activities including story reading and rhyme times with children and young people as individuals and in groups
  • Able to answer users' enquiries and provide information to users, other Council staff and outside organisations
  • Good IT skills including using a Library Management System.
  • Able to use a till to calculate charges and give change
  • Able to organise, file and retrieve library materials alphabetically and numerically
  • Able to work evening and weekends as required to meet the needs of the service
  • Ability to understand the health and safety issues relating to Library and Heritage Services
