The maternity IT team are looking for a system administrator to join them.


Following training, you will be working closely with the Lead Digital Midwife and IT midwife with day to day management of the maternity IT system (Euroking).

This will include routine checking for data quality issues, preparation of reports and statistics and meeting tight deadlines. On some days, you will be working alone so you should be able to work with supervision.

Good IT skills are essential and you should be competent in the use of Word, Publisher and Excel spreadsheets. Knowledge of PAS is desirable but training can be given.


The post holder will be also speaking with patients and staff on a regular basis and will need a good telephone manner.

This role will be the key point of contact for women to activate access to their maternity electronic personal health record.


The post holder will also be required, once they have expertise in the system, to undertake training for new staff (doctors, midwives and support grades) and this may eventually include one to one or group training.

Some travel may be involved to attend these sessions throughout Cornwall.


Currently the team are home working, but the main base of work is the Princess Alexandra Maternity Wing at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Liaise with clinical users and IT for incident and problem management, release management, development, and configuration change requests

Define and maintain standard operating procedures for systems management of the Maternity system, and maintain appropriate records

In conjunction with the IT midwife, oversee data quality in the maternity IT system and undertake remedial action as required

Liaise closely with the Trust's IT, Information and Performance teams to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of reports and data submissions

Support the specialty's clinical and managerial teams in the development of new reporting and monitoring tools

Produce simple ad hoc reports and run established reports as required

Assist with training of staff in small groups or on a one to one basis

Speak to patients often to authorise their access to ePHR and to guide their use of the system

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.

To assist the IT Midwife, Digital Lead Midwife and Fetal Monitoring Midwife in the development of Maternity systems to improve the effectiveness in clinical settings

Act as a local point of contact for users of the Maternity IT system (training will be given) and provide support to both Trust staff and external software providers

Be involved in the testing of new system releases, ensuring the system is fit for purpose prior to release to the live environment, and liaise with systems users as required, offering training where necessary

Produce and maintain written procedures for the maintenance of the Maternity system to ensure the safe management of patients, and best practice for data governance


Data Quality:

Work closely with the training team to assist in the development and production of systems training materials for users of the Maternity systems

Understand and support the processes for essential data collection and entry to the specialty-specific software

Liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff for timely, complete, and accurate data collection, and data entry

Ensure established reports are run as required to meet reporting deadlines

Identify training needs and take remedial action.

Produce simple ad hoc reports from the specialty-specific packages

Assist with the identification of patients for audit projects as agreed with the specialty audit lead.

Arrange and attend meetings pertinent to data quality, providing minutes if necessary.

Design data collection process from scratch as required for new processes/services/audits

Liaise with relevant staff following suggested changes to the data collection process to ensure that changes have been implemented.

Liaise with the appropriate managers for any required changes to the current clinical systems to improve data quality

Have a general understanding of information governance/data protection relating to the Service.

The post holder will have frequent and extended period of concentration using a VDU.
