We are looking for an exceptional individual who is talented, dedicated, motivated and innovative to be the Head of the Alder Centre; to lead and develop the vision of the Alder Centre.


The Alder Centre is a place like no other, providing bereavement care and education for anyone affected by the death of a child of any age.

The future vision of The Alder Centre aims to meet the original functions and aspirations of its founding members in-line with Alder Hey's Vision 2030:
Creating a world where those affected by the death of child can live their best lives.


The Alder Centre will be acknowledged nationally and internationally as a renowned Centre of Excellence that involves families and professionals working in partnership providing an evidence-based model of care and education for those affected by the death of a child.


T he post holder will be responsible for the delivery of services at the Alder Centre and the National Child Death helpline, working closely with bereaved parent volunteers, service users, counsellors, volunteer and Child death helpline co ordinators and administrators.


As the Head of the Centre you would be expected to display excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills and to work closely with a variety of different professional teams across Trust and develop key relationships with external partners and agencies.


As Head of the Alder Centre you will be responsible for the strategic development of the Alder Centre's child bereavement service and developing opportunities for expanding service use.


You will oversee the specialist counselling service for anyone affected by the death of a child, and in addition to your own clinical caseload will manage and support the team and provide clinical supervision to a wide range of professional groups.


Working closely with volunteers is a key element of the role and you will have operational responsibilty for all bereaved and other volunteers who suport a range of services, activities and events.

The post holder will manage the national Child Death Helpline which is fully hosted by the Alder Centre


Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year.

Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites.

We're also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.
