The Orthoptic team at Southampton Eye Unit have a vacancy for a full-time band 6 orthoptist for a fixed term 12 months.

Applications from newly qualified orthoptists are welcomed, but would be appointed at band 5. It is an exciting opportunity to experience a wide variety of clinical Orthoptics in a large tertiary referral hospital.

You will be joining a friendly and supportive team of 13 orthoptists working closely with four paediatric ophthalmologists - two with an ocular motility specialism, two neuro-ophthalmologists, optometrists, vision scientists and a dedicated orthoptic and reception and administration team.

Depending on your experience, you will undertake a varied orthoptic clinical role, including specialist paediatric, ocular motility, nystagmus and neuro-ophthalmology clinics, and orthoptic input to botulinum clinics for strabismus and adjustable suture procedures.

Audit and continuing professional development are encouraged in the department, and we have regular teaching sessions.

We are a placement centre for orthoptic undergraduate students, and depending on your experience, you will be a clinical tutor.

The department supports the BIOS preceptorship scheme.
