Methodist Homes (MHA) is seeking a Volunteer Gardener to support the Maintenance staff at Hampton Lodge Care Home. Hampton Lodge provides high-quality nursing and residential dementia care for up to 44 people. We also offer respite care.


The ideal individual will have an understanding of the needs of Older People living in a specialised residential environment, and be kind and compassionate.

The gardener will support in doing the following tasks;

Watering:

Pruning:

-
Mowing:

-
Weeding:

-
General support
The ideal volunteer will have a passion for gardening and would like to work in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of landscape and garden maintenance a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of landscaping and gardening requirements

Qualities needed for this role

  • You will have some gardening knowledge and skills, although this can be basic
  • You will have good communication skills
  • We would love it if you came with experience of garden maintenance but it's not essential
  • You will be able to be flexible
  • You will have an awareness of older people in the local community
  • Having a passion for people, and gardening
  • A commitment to health and safety within the volunteering environment
  • You will be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • A commitment to MHA's values and policies

What training and support will be provided

  • We will provide you with a full induction for the role
  • Training on safeguarding, health and safety and other training and updating of skills and knowledge relevant to the role as appropriate
  • Ongoing support from a named contact
  • Out of pocket expenses in accordance with MHA's Expenses Policy
  • You will also need to complete the following training:
  • Health and Safety: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
  • Moving and Handling Safely
  • COSHH Awareness
  • Fire Safety
  • Dementia Friends online course(if you wish)
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (as needed)
  • Distressed Behaviours (as needed)
  • Customer Service (as needed)

DBS Requirements

  • This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check as it involves 11 contact with Scheme members or care home residents.


  • MHA Care homes

  • Volunteers required to have had both Covid19 vaccinations and be tested regularly at the care home.

Times and Commitment

  • We ask that you make a minimum of 46 months commitment to this role
  • We ask you to be able to commit on a regular basis, to be agreed with your named contact
