Role Purpose

The Deputy Visuals Editor will assist the Visuals Editor in directing the operational and strategic direction of our visual journalism at the Belfast Telegraph and Sunday Life.
Reporting to the Visuals Editor and working in collaboration with senior editorial staff, Their primary responsibility is ensuring the Belfast Telegraph and Sunday Life have the best pictures and video online and in print. In the fastchanging news environment, They are also responsible for developing new ways to cover photography and video.
They will also be responsible for careful forward planning to prepare for known upcoming events, and the development of unique, exclusive photos/video and news packages.
An important part of this role will be managing budgets and ensuring efficiencies, as well as excellence. The role holder will manage relationships with thirdparty agencies, contractors and contributors to ensure best value and quality of service.
Role Responsibilities (Overview)
Directing, commissioning and briefing photographers and videographers
Attending editorial conferences to develop ideas and editorial coverage
Working collaboratively with the Visuals Editor, EditorinChief and desk editors to ensure the best photographic and video coverage in print and online
Creating and sourcing video to be distributed across all relevant Belfast Telegraph channels
Working closely with the audience team to prioritise and promote video content
Contributing to the strategic direction of the Belfast Telegraph and Sunday Life in print and online
Taking photos/video where necessary
Ensuring the Visuals department operates efficiently and works within budget
Carry out your duties at all times in accordance with INM's Editorial Code of Practice and relevant professional and legal codes

Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)- At least five years' experience as a photographer or videographer - with picture/video desk experience

Skilled in Adobe Photoshop and other relevant software
