Description
This position can therefore be carried out remotely, from home, with only very occasional office presence required. However, a desk within the office would be provided to the successful applicant if they desired.


This position benefits from a £4,000 annual Recruitment & Retention bonus, paid in monthly installments additional to the standard salary.

A practical clinical coding assessment will form part of the interview process.

  • To manage a team of clinical coders, in conjunction with a second team leader, to effectively deliver the clinical coding service requirements whilst ensuring the appropriate performance standards, health and wellbeing of all team members
  • Undertake annual appraisals, quarterly health & wellbeing assessments and any other required processes with team members
  • Plan & delivery regular team meetings providing service updates & other required information
  • Undertake internal clinical coding audits on team members to ensure high quality clinical coding accuracy is maintained
  • Review complex cases, including often complex deceased patient coding to ensure a high level of accuracy and completeness
  • Attend clinical governance meetings as required, developing relationships with clinical teams


The clinical coding department of Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for determining the clinical coding of around 12,000 episodes of care per month.

The Trust provides a full range of hospital specialties, supplemented by a significant number of regional and national specialist services.


The trust has a fully electronic medical record (Cerner EPR) and all clinical coding is undertaken from electronic source documentation.
