We are looking for an experienced Operations Supervisor, who can supervise staff in the day to day operation of the Organics recycling plant under the direction of the Area Manager.


The main role of the Operations Supervisor is to assist the Area Manager to oversee a fast-paced Organics recycling process.

You will report to the Area Manager, optimising working practices and standards and reporting any issues or concerns.


This position requires a good level of communication and operational skills to liaise with the Area Manager and the shift team members to aid the shift team in meeting the department and company targets with regards to quality, health & safety, and environmentalcompliance.


Main duties include:

- ensuring all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, near-miss reporting, and emergency procedures.
- ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and that all operations comply with the site licence.
- assisting in the development and delivery of toolbox talks and ensuring they are delivered to staff in a timely manner.
- monitoring stock levels of vehicle and plant supplies.
- completing all administrative tasks associated with the role, including daily site checks, and weekly stock compliance checks.
- supporting the Area Manager to ensure the site has adequate cover of staff during operational hours including overtime and holiday rotas.
- maintaining a good working relationship with internal and external customers.
- contributing toward on-going cost control, actively seeking to improve efficiency, reducing operating costs, increasing margins, and meeting budget targets set.
- supporting the site management team to provide leadership, give work instructions, and monitor the correct adoption of site rules and adherence to traffic management plans and site licence.
- under direction from the Area Manager, supervise the operational shift team to maximise performance. Through good communication, ensure all employees understand their duties and delegated tasks.
- work with the Area Manager to take a proactive approach to managing the team's performance throughout the employee lifecycle including providing constructive feedback, conducting regular communication sessions, mentoring and coaching, and helping with personaldevelopment plans.
- deputising for the Area Manager and carrying out other reasonable tasks as the company may require from time to time.


Shift Patern
Week 1- mon-tue and fri-sun 12hr shift pattern

Week 2- wed-thurs 12hr shift pattern

Essential Skills:


  • An awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace.
  • Experience as a supervisor and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • The ability to operate machinery in a safe manner.
  • Experience working in a factory process environment.
  • Full driving licence.

Desirable Skills:


  • IOSH managing safely or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the waste/recycling industry.
  • Knowledge of Organics recycling and PAS 100 compliance
  • Experience in a regulated environment.
  • Previous experience operating mobile plant.
  • Experience in risk management.
  • Accreditation with any of the following:
  • NVQ
  • NPORS
  • MPQC
  • CSCS
