Senior Design Engineer - Van Conversion Division
Leeds

Full Time 40hrs, Permanent, Monday to Friday

Up to £35,000 pa dependent on experience + benefits

Due to our continued progressive growth, diversification and further expansion into a purpose-built facility in early 2023, SM UK currently has a fantastic and exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to take a vital role in the Company's furtherexpansion.

You will be an integral part of our existing Van Conversion Division and your experience will contribute in taking us to the next level.


SM UK are recognised as the preferred supplier for the UK's biggest manufacturer of vehicle safety systems, but more recently SM UK has expanded into the Turn-Key, Welfare and Van Conversion Market.

Dealing with leading manufacturers and brands such asFord, Sortimo, System Edstrom and Rhino, providing bespoke solutions for clients up and down the country.


We are looking to recruit a highly organised, proactive and enthusiastic Senior Design Engineer who can confidently communicate at all levels.

You will be a motivated and ambitious Team member with a desire to expand your knowledge and experience to furtherdevelop your future career with us.


Ideally you will have a minimum of 3 years' experience within the van conversion/build environment, automotive industry or similar background, with 2D AutoCAD and 3D SolidWorks software experience or relevant transferable skills and/or qualifications tounderpin your knowledge.


You will be responsible for ensuring that every van conversion design provides the optimum solution for new and existing clients and meets all the required legislative requirements whilst working with vehicle manufacturers, VCA, VOSA and other professionalauthorities.


Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

  • Ownership of all CAD aspects of client projects ensuring drawings/design/information are provided within set timeframes and deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret all required documentation, including technical information and calculations.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, provide technical support and resolve technical issues.
  • Developing all design, in line with agreed concept and best manufacturing methods including van racking solutions, seating, on board power, lighting and accessories.
  • Provide optimum, cost effective and innovative solutions.
  • Generate Bill of Materials (BOM) and Cutting Lists.
  • Generate CNC programs as required.
  • Meeting both internal and external deadlines.
  • Project Management Skills including working to timescales and the ability to manage project milestones throughout each project lifecycle.
  • Providing an exceptional customer experience.
  • Liaising with new and existing suppliers and manufacturing representatives.
  • Innovation, Research & Development into new suppliers, materials, products, designs and concepts to continually enhance our competitive edge and client offering.
  • Maintain a highlevel of understanding across the breadth of our products and services to keep uptodate with technology and market demands.
  • Following internal procedures and processes.
  • Liaising effectively with internal departments such as Sales, Workshop, and Stores to efficiently manage each project and provide a seamless customer service.
