Montgomery Customs are looking for a Trainee Customs Broker to join their established team in Newtownabbey.
Purpose of the Job
Obtaining and completing all paperwork or electronic records needed to present to government agencies for the clearance of consignments while ensuring that the correct duties and tariffs are paid.
Key duties and Roles
- Processing of UK and EU Customs Declarations, CHEDs and licences while meeting business expectations
- Willingness and skillset to complete clearances for all Clients
- Keeping apprised of new internal methods and practices
- Awareness of dynamic Customs Procedures and Legislation
- Willing to work on shift/rota
- Provide cover for sickness, holidays and out of hours attendance where reasonably requested by Management or other to meet the needs of the business.
- Maintaining accuracy and attention to detail with Data Entry and Company Records
- Properly filing customs paperwork and electronic records
- Monitoring the Customs inboxes for jobs and enquiries and responding in a proficient manner within a time that meets the needs of the business
- Full compliance and acting with paramount integrity when dealing with stakeholders especially governmental and border authorities
- Undertaking corrective actions where required and committing to reducing all errors and omissions
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work closely with colleagues by providing support where required
- Able to learn new skills and take direction but work on your own initiative
- Sending appropriate paperwork or electronic records to correct Stakeholders as per their requirements
- Weekly and monthly reporting for stakeholders
- Escalating issues to the management team in a timely manner when required
- Interpret Commercial paperwork, Incoterms and data on spreadsheets for data entry purposes
- Sending a Daily Handover
- Undertake other duties within competence and within reason, in order to meet fluctuations or priorities in work demands including adhoc administrative tasks as required by the company
Essential Criteria
Ability to prioritise tasks
Strong IT skills in Microsoft Windows Microsoft Office, spreadsheets &, Databases
Capacity to learn new skills and take direction but work on your own initiative
Good communicator with fluency in written and spoken English
Five GCSEs or equivalent including English and Maths
Strong Customer Service abilities
Willing to work on shift/rota
Desirable Criteria
Previous experience of computer software.
Experience in a busy office, particularly in the Transport Industry
Awareness of Brexit, Customs Procedures, International Trade and Transport
TSS PBN and GVMS usage
Ability to interpret Commercial paperwork and Incoterms

£21,600.00 per year
