The Court of Protection Team


Our Court of Protection team work with people who no longer have the mental capacity to deal with their own affairs and require the support of others to act on their behalf.

This may be due to age related illness or an accident.

Once it becomes apparent that someone will require assistance in managing their affairs we will meet with that person and family members to discuss more fully how we can provide assistance.

Our Court of Protection specialist team assist clients throughout the UK from our East Anglia offices.


The Role


As a case worker, you will work as part of a "pod" team to service the needs of a group of clients.

The case worker may have responsibility for a number of their own cases while providing support to the Relationship Manager and Senior Relationship Manager in the pod.

Our case workers provide support in the management of client's finances and the associated work arising from this. You will help build good working relationships with Clients, their families and other professionals involved in supporting them.

You will need to take a broad overview of a client's circumstances to ensure long-term financial security and that the best interests of clients are met, managing crises and providing advice and solutions.

There can be challenging situations which the team need to deal with whilst managing funds for our clients. On occasion, we may not be able to fulfil the requests which our clients or their families make.

There is a need to be able to convey potentially difficult messages to our clients who may be unhappy with the decision made.

Therefore, our case workers need to be confident in dealing with these difficult and sometimes volatile situations.

Whilst not an exhaustive list, you will:

  • work under guidance and supervision of the Senior Relationship Managers and Relationship Managers ensuring that Client funds are appropriately managed, including ensuring that sufficient monies are available, within the correct accounts, to meet ongoing needs and expenditure
- manage relationship with Clients, their families and other professionals and agencies, such as Case Managers, Social Services and Care in the Community either directly
- be working in a team based environment, sharing workloads and delegating tasks to enhance client service

  • Ensure all files are compliant with the firm's policies in respect of conflict checking, money laundering, risk and compliance matters and in relation to the team's policies. Ensure all files are kept up to date and maintained in accordance with the requirements of the Law Society
This role may involve regular travel to clients nationally, with occasional overnight stays. Flexibility with working hours will be required at times in order to meet the needs of clients.


Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • You must have an understanding of the requirements of the Court of Protection
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with disabled clients with both mental and/or physical impairment, on the phone or face to face
  • Confident in dealing with difficult and sometimes volatile situations
  • Be happy to undertake and assist with business development activities for the team
  • Ensure that all work undertaken, including letters and all communications regarding clients, is correctly documented, timerecorded (in accordance with timerecording policy) and that related time and financial cost targets are met
