Avencia Consulting are working with a leading specialty Insurer based in the City, who are looking to hire a Technical Reporting Accountant to join.


The Company currently writes lines of business including; specialty insurance: aviation & aerospace, energy, marine, property, terror & political violence, contingency and other specialty lines; reinsurance: property reinsurance, property retrocession, specialtyreinsurance, whole account/multi-class and bespoke.


The role
Reporting into the Technical Reporting Manager, and working as part of the group Finance function. This role is suitable for someone who is part qualified or is newly qualified.


Key accountabilities

  • Perform monthly close processes such as underwriting data reconciliations, bank reconciliations, journal postings and other balance sheet reconciliations/revaluations
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for technical underwriting accounts
  • Support the Technical Reporting Manager and Senior Technical accountants with the month and quarter end close processes
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and associated reconciliations
  • Assist with providing timely and accurate data and analysis to the group reporting team for Board and Executive Management Team reporting in accordance with Group timetables
  • Ensure internal controls procedures are completed and evidenced as part of the monthly and quarterly close process
  • Assist with the internal and external audit process where appropriate
  • Ad hoc projects as required

Skills & experience

  • Progress towards a recognized accounting designation or newlyqualified accountant status
  • Previous experience within insurance/reinsurance preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles considered an asset
  • Ability and willingness to work extended working hours and weekends as needed
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask and meet deadlines
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the finance team and other key stakeholders across different functions within the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
