About the Role

***This is a full-time fixed term contract until 17 April 2025.


You will assist the implementation of a high number of elevated temperature material tests on conventional and novel stainless-steel grades to comprehensively explore their material behaviour in fire.


You will also work on the development of advanced numerical models able to replicate the behaviour of stainless-steel structural elements at elevated temperatures.

You will assist the establishment of fire design methods for stainless steel structural elements compatible with the structural steel fire design philosophy of the British and European structural steel fire design standard BS EN


About You

***This post is based at the University of Warwick and will require the use of our advanced facilities to perform cutting-edge research on the behaviour of stainless-steel structures in fire in the School of Engineering.

You will undertake independent and collaborative research and will be expected to write up your research for publication.


You will be expected to deal with any management/administration problems that may arise from the project and produce and present regular project reports ensuring that the project objectives and deadlines are met.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and IT skills. You will possess quantitative and qualitative research skills in physical experimental and numerical work.


The ability to use the finite element analysis software Abaqus, the numerical computing software Matlab as well as knowledge of the Python programming language is required.


If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure.

Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure.
