About the role


The Walgreens Boots Alliance Group Tax team is an established in-house team that works closely with the wider business to manage the Group's tax affairs.

This role would suit an ambitious tax professional seeking to progress their career within a varied role in a complex international corporate group.


The Tax Assistant will work with the Group Tax team to ensure that the direct tax requirements of the UK group businesses are met.


  • Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns for an allocated portfolio of UK companies and Channel Islands branches, in line with internal and external statutory deadlines including examination of underlying financial data and discussions with business / finance owners
  • Review and preparation of tax notes for IFRS statutory accounts
  • Assist with current and deferred tax reporting for the UK group businesses in line with group reporting timetables including quarterly reporting and forecasts
  • Maintain an understanding of accounting and an appreciation of financial accounting processes, as well as an understanding of the consolidation process
  • Preparation of patent box claims and reports including analysing data from Management Information and discussions with Innovations team
  • Assist with HMRC correspondence, including technical research and liaising with business/finance owners all correspondence to be of a high technical standard and information to be clearly communicated
  • Assist with various other direct tax compliance and advisory matters relevant to a large corporate group, including claims and elections, corporation tax payments, SAO filings, CbCR, CFC reviews, SDLT, group and consortium relief claims etc.
  • Identify and implement direct tax process improvements through use of technology with the aim of a seamless flow of data across underlying management accounting systems, tax reporting systems and tax compliance systems
  • Keep uptodate with technical developments and legislation changes (with opportunities to make presentations to other team members/departments on particular topics)
  • Work with all members of the Group Tax function to ensure the aims and objectives of the department are met

Hybrid working:


We currently operate a fixed hybrid working approach for Support Office team members with a mix of remote and office-based working.

Our set office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with team members able to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.

What you'll need to have

  • Qualified Accountant, or significant progress towards accounting or tax qualification
  • Corporation tax experience, including preparation of corporation tax computations and returns
  • Experience with a top 4 or midtier accounting firm in the tax department OR tax experience in a corporate group
  • Experience with tax accounting and/or accounts preparation work for a company, including deferred tax accounting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

It would be great if you also have

  • AC/ACA or ACCA
  • CTA
  • Experience with Onesource tax compliance software
  • Power BI experience
  • US GAAP tax accounting experience
