Applications are invited for a 6 month 2PA post.

The service has close links with the paediatric department at the RUH, with scope within this role to further develop working relationships.

The successful applicant will join the team at an exciting time. In the past 2 years we have responded to the pandemic by offering clinics for paediatric Long COVID.

Our clinicians are developing expert knowledge in the assessment and treatment of Long COVID and we are working closely with the South West regional paediatric Long COVID hub, to ensure that we remain up to date with the latest research and developments.

Paediatric Specialist Fatigue Service

The Paediatric Specialist Fatigue Service is a tertiary outpatient service which accepts referrals from the whole of the UK. It is a multidisciplinary team comprised of Doctors, Psychologists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and medical secretaries.

The service delivers evidence-based treatment in line with NICE guidelines.

Due to the covid pandemic, most clinical work is currently delivered virtually.

We have managed to stay fully operational during the pandemic, continuing to provide assessments and treatments to young people presenting to our service.

Main purpose of the job

  • To work clinically as a member of the multidisciplinary team, providing clinical assessments and interventions.
  • To deliver evidence based interventions as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • To contribute to and participate in team meetings.
  • To clinically supervise members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To provide specialist consultation, supervision and support to team members of all disciplines, when required.
  • To provide specialist consultation and support to consultant and GP colleagues.
  • To liaise with professionals in the wider community, including Education and Social Services.

The Trust employs over 4,500 staff, some of who also provide outpatient, diagnostic and same day case surgery services at local community hospitals in Bath & North East Somerset, Somerset and Wiltshire.

The hospital provides healthcare to the population served by BSW CCG as well as one social enterprise, Sirona Health & Care CIC.

Management Structure

The Trust has a divisional structure.

There are three clinical divisions, Medicine, Surgery and Family and Specialist Services, supported by two additional divisions, Corporate Services and Estates & Facilities.

Each Clinical Division is led by a senior management team, consisting of a medical Head of Division, Divisional Manager and a Head of Nursing.

Each also has a Head of Governance in the senior divisional team. Anaesthesia, ICM and pain services sit within the division of surgery.

Professional Responsibilities

  • To provide diagnostic assessments for children and young people referred to the service.
  • To contribute to and support ongoing research through recruitment and treatment of participants.
  • To be responsible for own clinical caseload ensuring clinical governance, quality assurance and paediatric professional standards are met.
  • To keep accurate and up to date records of all clinical interventions and professional judgements and related statistical information. These should be kept in line with Trust policy.

For example:
maintaining confidentiality consistent with Trust, professional and service policies.

  • To maintain and develop professional links within the paediatric and community paediatric networks. To provide education and advice about severe fatigue in various settings. This may include local and national educational meetings, providing training to other clinical and nonclinical (e.g. education staff) teams and representing the service at national conferences as required.
  • To deliver interventions such as Activity Management in line with NICE guidelines. Keeping up to date with developments in the areas of ME/CFS, relevant areas of paediatrics, psychiatry and safeguarding.
  • To continue professional development by being responsible for personal development and participate in the Appraisal and Development Scheme. Following this process a personal development plan will be agreed with the appraiser.
