Description
Personal Assistant and Secretarial duties;

Lord Shuttleworth, has a busy public life, with business and voluntary commitments for which he needs skilled and experienced support in all areas concerned with correspondence, diary planning, arranging meetings and travel, and record-keeping.

The majority of the work centres round Lord Shuttleworth's current appointments, principally as Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire (The King's representative in the county) and Chairman of Trustees of the Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth Textile Collections at Gawthorpe Hall, Burnley.

It will include helping with many aspects of Lord Shuttleworth's personal life as well.

The work requires the highest standards of presentation and communication skill, plus integrity, efficiency, courtesy, loyalty, confidence and foresight. Above all the work demands total discretion.

Anything learnt in the course of the work has to remain confidential and great care must be taken not to disclose private or sensitive information.

Duties will include:

  • Arranging travel, hotel accommodation and some small events at Lord Shuttleworth's home
  • Helping with technology
  • Recordkeeping and managing the filing system
  • Maintaining records and archives
  • Dealing with all correspondence and posting letters

You may be asked to undertake a range of duties but the job does not involve management responsibility for other staff.

Secretary in the Kay-Shuttleworth Estate Office

There is some overlap between the two parts of the job, and flexibility and adaptability will be required.

The place of work for both parts of the job is the Estate Office in Cowan Bridge, on the A65 two miles east of Kirkby Lonsdale.

Ability to work as part of a small team in the office is important and on occasion it will be necessary to work with, assist or cover for other members of the team.

The Secretary will have day-to-day responsibility for maintenance of office equipment, and for supplies of consumables such as stationery, lightbulbs and cleaning materials.

Lord Shuttleworth uses the Estate Office address for much of his correspondence, and has some meetings there.

The Agent for the estate has overall responsibility for the efficient running of the Estate Office and the care of its personnel and contents.
