Oxford Nanopore's sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis (for rapid insights), in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieveshort to ultra-long read lengths.

We are looking for a highly motivated Software Test Engineer to carry out the quality assurance stage of software development for our primary sequencing software.

The Details...


As part of our team, the Software Test Engineer will conduct and design manual tests, as per the defined standards and procedures, to ensure the software built by our developers is fit for purpose.

You'll find yourself working with software developers andproject teams to deliver test plans, test cases and reports on functional and non-functional requirements in a fast-paced agile environment.


Other responsibilities include:

  • Testing software releases by carrying out assigned tests
  • Generating and completing test cases based on requirements
  • Designing tests to mitigate risk
  • Writing bug reports and providing objective feedback to software development teams
  • Platform testing to include: desktop, tablet and mobile across Linux, OSX and Windows
  • Working towards departmental and project deadlines
  • Communicating findings to technical and nontechnical colleagues
What We're Looking For...
We'll expect you to have an undergraduate degree or equivalent experience and professional qualifications. You'll also be experienced in manual and/or automated testing with proven knowledge of testing desktop and mobile software. You have a solid understandingof the software development life-cycle and testing methodologies.

Nice to haves include experience and knowledge of the following:

  • ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level qualification or higher
  • Testing of Mobile platforms such as Android or iOS
  • JIRA and XRay Test Management for JIRA
  • Working in an Agile environment


As liaising with a variety of different collaborators is a regular part of this role, we're looking for someone with excellent verbal and written communication skills and an approachable manner that encourages interaction with others.

You're also someonewith a good eye for detail and excellent organisational abilities that enable you to work towards and achieve tight deadlines.


This role will suit someone who works well under pressure, and who wants the challenge of being part of a fast-paced high-tech organisation.

You will be required to work with the team at our Oxford offices when required therefore you must be able to commuteto our HQ based in Oxford.
