About this career opportunity

The Communications and Engagement Specialist will empower each Skills Network to engage effectively with their community by developing and supporting the delivery of community engagement methods and approaches so that members participate in, contribute to and benefit from the Skills Networks.

They will work directly with each Skills Network to help them engage their community around their content using the available tools which support discussions, learning, and knowledge sharing.

You will have the ability to advise and collaborate with senior level stakeholders and work in an integrated way across the facilities of the university which are skills, foresight, research, learning and knowledge & information.


You will make an impact in this role by:

  • Drive a culture of engaging communications based on the best practice across the business, ensuring an integrated approach.
  • Guide the Skills Networks to manage the content on their sites in line with our approach to knowledge and in a way that makes it easy for the whole community to connect and share.
  • Work to scale guidance, experience, and insights across all 58 Skills Networks to facilitate broad engagement in the Skills Networks and enable our people to benefit from the collateral (guidance, learning, research) produced by the Skills Networks.
  • Works with Skills Networks, the University and technical developers to understand user needs and develops plans and processes to create quality interactions and collateral to inspire change and support our business.
  • Develops strong relationships with Skills Leaders, University Marketing and Communications team, University members and others involved in Skills Networks to develop approaches (behaviours and processes) that work across the suite of tools, communicating best practice widely.

Is this role right for you?

If so, you'll have:


  • A proven track record of shaping and driving the delivery of innovative and dynamic staff engagement, behaviour/culture change, communications strategies, or campaigns within complex organisations with geographically dispersed staff (at least 34 years)
  • Experience in using multichannel communications to deliver key strategic messages across organisational boundaries (functional and geographic).
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills at all levels of hierarchy and a collaborative working style with good listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in measuring internal communications and engagement based on deep data and analytics.
  • Knowledge of a variety of uptodate digital communication and engagement tactics and tools.
