The Research Contracts Officer will be responsible for the day to day running of the Aneurin Bevan UHB Research contracts service.


The post holder will be responsible for providing advice and support to senior Research and Development staff in relation to contractual arrangements with non-commercial and commercial research funder organisations and researchers based in Universities and the NHS across Wales, UK and Internationally as required.

The post holder will also provide expertise for governance checks required around contracts for NHS research being undertaken in the Health Board, escalating complex queries to the Research Contracts Manager at Health and Care Research Wales or the Welsh Risk Pool as appropriate.


The post holder will be required to use negotiation and persuasion skills in working with a range of perspectives in order to facilitate agreement and co-operation between all parties including NHS organisations, universities and pharmaceutical companies that are sponsoring research studies, particularly in regard to agreeing contract terms.


  • Act as the first point of contact in ABUHB Research and Development Department for queries relating to research contracts, escalating complex queries to the Research Contracts Manager HCRW as required.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient day to day running of the research contracts service on behalf of the Health Board.
  • Responsible for providing advice on research contracts to stakeholders, including NHS R&D offices and sponsors (commercial and noncommercial).
  • Develop standard operating procedures and guidance documents relating to research related contract review, for internal colleagues as well as other stakeholders across the Research infrastructure.
  • Collate frequently asked questions and use these and other relevant information to develop high quality training material for delivery as part of the local training programme.
  • Contribute as appropriate to other duties by mutual agreement with line manager.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
