We are looking for a
Head of Immunology Strategy who is innovative and agile to join us in our
Immunology Research Team, based at our research and development hub in
Slough, UK.

About the role


The role will require the identification of novel scientific insights in inflammatory pathways combined with a strong understanding of human pathobiology to identify new molecular targets, as well as the ability to translate these insights into differentiated solutions for patients.

Who you'll work with


Working alongside the Focus Area Heads and the Modality Platform Heads, the Head of Immunology Strategy will be responsible for delivering the integrated project strategy for all programs in the broad immunology portfolio.

What you'll do

Strategy:

Work across the whole early Immunology Research portfolio to define the early Target Product Profile, pressure testing the therapeutic and immunological concepts & modality selection/rational drug design, refine lead optimization strategies, target selection criteria and differentiation strategies, revise the toxicology and FIH selection strategies & highlight challenges & elucidate mitigation strategies.


Target identification:
Contribute to replenishment of the portfolio through proposing or critical reviewing new target proposals and due diligence reviews

Scientific excellence:
Lead early research projects from target proposal to POC. Guide the design and execution of portfolio projects, address the critical questions in a clear and effective manner. Identify and work with academic research leaders for the benefit of the portfolio. Be a key contributor to the immunogenicity and immunotoxicology assessment of the UCB portfolio

Leadership:

Be a key member of the Immunology Leadership Team and drive the forging of strong links between UK Research, non-clinical safety and clinical pharmacology, PK/PD & biomarkers, Translational Medicine and Dev Sol.

Raise the external profile of UCB and be on the cutting edge of biologics research through participation in external consortia, attending conferences and publishing papers.

Interested? For this role we're looking for the following education, experience and skills

  • Scientific (PhD) or Medical (MD) background
  • Significant relevant experience in a drug hunting environment
  • Significant leadership experience managing groups directly and indirectly (crossfunctional leadership outside direct span of control).
  • International reputation in Immunology Research
  • Able to define and socialise a longterm Strategy
  • Able to articulate Value Propositions and align these with our PVS
  • Able to Engage with and Influence Stakeholders both within and outside of ES
  • Scientific Area Expertise at an International Level
  • Inclusive Engagement of team and wider stakeholders
  • Able to act as a Change Leader
