**Young Person's Training Officer - full time position on a fixed-term contract until March 2025

Do you have the practical skills (for example basic joinery skills, an/or are proficient with general construction/maintenance) and have the experience of working with children and young people? Lancashire Child and Youth Justice Service (CYJS) have an exciting role for a Young Person's Training Officer.


The Young Person's Training Officer will work at Lancashire Child and Youth Justice Service (CYJS) which is a multi-agency service that is co-ordinated by the local authority and overseen by the Youth Justice Board.

This is a statutory partnership, and the team is made up of staff from social care and education, the police, the probation service, and local health services.

The CYJS works with children aged 8-18 years who have either committed an offence or are identified as being at risk of doing so with services ranging from prevention through to working with children and young people in custody.


The Young Person's Training Officer role will have a specific focus on planning and delivering skills-based sessions for children, with the aim of supporting children to develop practical skills leading to training opportunities.

Experience of working in a trade setting may be advantageous although not essential providing you have the practical skills outlined.


The role with involve engaging children who have complex needs, who are open to the service on a range of different disposals from prevention, through to children leaving custody.

An ability to build relationships with and engage children who may present challenging behaviours, as well showing patience and understanding is therefore essential.

All children will have a case manager who oversees their case, and the post holder will need to work closely with them to deliver skills-based interventions tailored to the needs of the child.

The post holder will be part of the central development team within the CYJS.

As such the post will involve working together with colleagues to develop restorative approaches across the service including the support to that development and delivery.


The service provides support to children, their families, victims, and communities through enhancing the safety of children and supporting opportunities for them to achieve positive futures.

Lancashire CYJS have received a "good" HMIP Inspection judgement.
